The original painting of Yr Wyddor took four days to complete. I used a technique known as ‘pouring’ which involves selecting areas of the painting to mask off, then literally pouring carefully mixed washes of watercolour paint over the paper and leaving it to dry. The process is then repeated, (in this case four times), choosing new areas to mask off at each pour - this builds layers of texture and colour that isn’t revealed until after the final pour has been completed and the painting is completely dry. The last stage is to remove all the layers of masking gum to reveal the final effects. The process is incredibly messy but exciting, and you never know until the final ‘reveal’ whether the painting has worked as you hoped.
The prints have been professionally reproduced using a GICLÉE printing process, which has an exceptionally wide colour gamut, for a more accurate and long lasting reproduction of the original painting. The printing is high resolution with solvent free pigment inks on the best quality paper. The print is presented in a deep mount which is chalk white.
