Delyth was born in Llangennech in 1954, the daughter of Trefor and Eileen Beasley and the younger sister of Elidyr. She attended Ysgol Gymraeg Dewi Sant, Llanelli before moving to Glamorganshire in 1965 where she attended Ysgol Rhydfelen. She went to university in Aberystwyth in 1972 to study for a degree in Welsh before moving in 1975 to Bangor as a research student. She spent most of her professional career at the university in Bangor where she specialised in the standardisation of Welsh terms and pioneered the world of language technologies. She was head of the Language Technologies Unit at Canolfan Bedwyr there and a teacher in the School of Linguistics. She is now retired, and lives in Y Felinheli. She is Professor Emerita at Bangor University, and an Honorary Fellow of the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol. She is married to Rhoslyn Prys, and they have three sons, six grandchildren and a cat.
