Ifor ap Glyn was raised in London by Welsh parents and went on to study at the University College Cardiff before settling and raising a family in Caernarfon.

He is renowned for performing his poetry before live audiences, from the Literature Pavilion at the National Eisteddfod to venues across the world. He has won the Crown at the National Eisteddfod twice and is an Archdruid. He is the author of several poetry collections and other books, and has served as both the Children's Laureate Wales and the National Poet of Wales.

Together with others, he co-founded a film and television production company called Cwmni Da, which has won numerous awards for its work in historical and factual programming.
