Helle Helle is one of Denmark's major contemporary writers. Her work depicts every-day events from a female perspective. Hers is a subtle, minimalistic style, yet the ripples on the lake's surface hint at the hidden tumult below.

This collection of sixteen of her short stories was originally published in 2000, and is one of the first ever books to be translated directly from Danish into Welsh. As of 2025 there is no English translation. The translator, Richard Crowe, speaks a number of languages and has previously worked as a professional translator for the Welsh Government; this, however, is his first translation of a creative prose work.
