Y Golau yn y Gadair

We all remember the touching moment Tudur Hallam was chaired as The Bard of the Chair at The National Eisteddfod of Wrexham, 2025. This accomplishment touched the heart of our nation. Y Golau yn y Gadair includes his winning ‘awdl', a traditional long poem written in strict metre, on the theme of ‘Dinas' (The City). The poem is about coming to terms with a diagnosis of invasive cancer.

Tudur Hallam lives in Folegastell, Sir Gaerfyrddin. He is married to Nia and is the father of Garan, Bedo and Edwy. They fill his world and many of his poems. He was a member of the Welsh Department at Swansea University from 1999, before retiring due to ill health in 2025. At the end of that year, the University awarded him a D.Litt. degree for his contribution to Welsh culture. He won the chair at the National Eisteddfod twice, in 2010 and 2025. This is his second volume of poetry following Parcio (Cyhoeddiadau Barddas, 2019).

The poems discuss a wide range of experiences and emotions, and present to us tender seconds, mixed feelings and images that will long remain in the memory. Without a doubt, this is a striking volume that embodies the true power of poetry.
